Culinary Tours In Italy

Colonna 31, Florence

For the perfect stay in the heart of historic Florence…
A gorgeous apartment located in the center of Florence, is the ideal location to explore the gems of this Renaissance city. Near enough to  explore by foot, but far enough to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax with home comforts!

THE APARTMENT sleeps 2 – 4
Situated on the second floor of an old noble building dating back to 1600, the family crest still adorns the facade of the palazzo. The entrance is lovely, something not common in many Florentine buildings, it still retains the original architectural decoration. Passing through the front door there is a little wrought iron gate in the hallway of black and white chequered marble, where once upon a time callers would have left their cards. Two flights of wide stone steps lead up to the apartment, but better still there is an elevator which at the end of a hard day sightseeing or when hauling suitcases up and down is a relief for weary bones.
The apartment has been restored with the care, attention and with complete respect for her historic importance, but with the addition of today’s modern comforts. The large airy living room has a beautifully frescoed ceiling and the kitchen and bedroom retain the original coffered ceilings. The floors throughout are of wide plank honey colored oak.
A small, separate fully equipped kitchen with an ochre and cream granite tiled floor and travertine work surfaces is ideal for preparing breakfast, light meals… or for creating full culinary experiences.
A cozy bedroom with simple white washed walls and coffered ceiling – a wonderful back drop for the queen-sized bed which can be split into two single beds. A walk in closet provides space for both clothes and storage.
A small hall leads to the bathroom of Carrara marble, with a large shower 80x120cm, as well of course as the wc, washbasin… and obligatory bidet. A cupboard alcove houses a washer-dryer.
The living room has a queen sized sofa bed for up to two additional guests; imagine waking up under a frescoed ceiling adorned with adoring putti!
Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout the house, Smart TV.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Situated in the historic center, within a stone’s throw of the spectacular Duomo and Baptistery, just off the porticoed Piazza della Santissima Annunziata which houses the Ospedale dei Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents) and Archaeological Museum, as well as the church of its own name sake. The imposing cobbled square is dominated by the massive statue of Ferdinando I de’ Medici mounted on his horse.
Via della Colonna runs east of the piazza towards the leafy Piazza d’Azeglio. The apartment faces the little known church of Santa Maria degli Angiolini with the adjoining convent and is just around the corner of the Pergola theater. An elegant Florentine neighbourhood with all the services one could need, corner deli’s and bars, restaurants, even a hair salon and gym… though probably enough exercise is gained by walking and admiring the architecture and beauty of the city.
Situated just three blocks north of the Duomo it within easy reach of all the important historic sites and a variety of neighborhoods from the markets of San Lorenzo, Ciompi antiques & the San Ambrogio more intimate food market. The Pergola theatre is just around the corner; you can mosey down to Ponte Vecchio and cross over the Arno into Oltrarno within 15 minutes. There is also public transport that with a single ticket can take you all over the city, including the train station.

Do you know Barbera d’Alba? This wine made from the barbera grape in the area of Alba, piedmont is delicious. This grape produces medium bodied ruby wine with low tannins and bright acidity. Spice, chocolate, hints of tabacco with a luscious, fresh berry finish! Try it if you don’t known it! #piedmontwines #italianwines #winetoursinitaly #barberadalba #eccolacucina #barbera ...
